How to sell your disability equipment: write a listing that works
A good listing helps the right person find your equipment fast. It only takes a few minutes, and a clear, honest ad gets more replies than a vague one. Here is how to write one that works.
Write a clear title
Put the most useful words first: the type of item, the brand or model if you know it, and a key detail like size. "Invacare manual wheelchair, 18 inch seat, folding" tells a buyer far more than "wheelchair for sale". Clear titles also help your listing show up when people search.
Be honest about the description and condition
Describe what it is, how it was used, and what is included, such as a charger, manual, or spare parts. Note the brand, model, and any measurements that matter, like seat width or weight capacity. Most importantly, be honest about the condition and mention any wear, marks, or faults. Buyers trust an accurate listing, and describing a flaw up front saves everyone a wasted trip.
Price it fairly, or give it free
Look at what similar used items sell for and price a little below new. Remember the goal is to pass good equipment on to someone who needs it, not to squeeze out every dollar. If you would rather see it go quickly, you can list it as Free or post a Wanted-style trade. A fair price gets more genuine replies.
Take good photos
Photos do most of the selling. A few tips:
- Shoot in good, even light, ideally near a window or outdoors in daylight.
- Take several angles: the whole item, the seat or main surface, controls, and any wear.
- Use a plain, tidy background so the item stands out.
- Show any damage clearly rather than hiding it. An honest photo builds trust.
You can add up to 5 photos. For your privacy, we strip location metadata from every photo when you upload, so your home address is never embedded in an image.
Be responsive
When a buyer messages you through the contact form, their message reaches you by email and you reply to them directly. Replying promptly and politely keeps the sale moving. If an item sells, take the listing down so people are not contacting you about something that is gone.
Stay safe
Meet in a busy public place in daylight, let the buyer inspect the item before they pay, and take cash or an in-person e-transfer. Never accept payment by wire transfer or gift cards, and ignore anyone offering to overpay or send a courier to collect. See our safety tips for the full guidance.
How the manage link works
You do not need an account. When you post, we email you a private manage link. Use it any time to edit the details, swap photos, renew the listing, or remove it once the item is gone. Listings run for 60 days and can be renewed. If you lose the email, go to Manage a listing and we will resend the link to your address.
